Marcel Vejmelka is Head of the International Office and associate professor for Spanish and Portuguese at Faculty 06 "Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies" (FTSK), Johannes Gutenberg University (Mainz/Germersheim, Germany). He was post-doctoral fellow at the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC), Justus Liebig University in Giessen (2007/08); he received his PhD in Latin American / Brazilian Studies at Freie Universität Berlin in 2004; he graduated in Translation Studies (Portuguese / Spanish) at Humboldt University Berlin in 2000. His research interest are in the field of Latin American and Brazilian literature and culture, with an emphasis on literary translation and popular culture (music and soccer).
